Max Warp Speed directly affects how fast a ship can travel by warping to each sector. For every 5 points in that stat equates to 1 second of warping time. For a Probe, for example, with a Max Warp Speed of 720, it would take 2.4 minutes (2 minutes and 24 seconds) to travel one square to a different sector.
